Quarterly Pie Talks

Doesn’t everyone love pie? And if we are eating something we enjoy, breaking bread/pie with others, doesn’t that create an environment of camaraderie? We think so! Pie talks gather people together to eat pie and discuss topics ranging from if you could be a tree, what tree would you like to be to what is the greatest invention of humanity? Everyone’s voice is honored through listening. We do not debate. We listen. Oh, Pie can also stand for People Interested in Everything.

We began in June of 2019 at the Homewood Public Library. Our first meeting set up guidelines for discussion and we brainstormed about books we would like to read. Quite a list came from the brainstorm. We have read books on racial justice, environmental justice, justice for women, and will soon read about the issue of justice in immigration. Meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:30pm in the Homewood Public Library Boardroom. Everyone is welcome.

The rich discussions of the Social Justice Book Club made us ask, what about a film series? Once again, the Homewood Public Library said yes, we would love to partner with you on this project, as did H.I.V.E. The film series will begin in January 2020. Our first film will be Dear White People. Showings will be the 4th Sunday of the month from 3-5pm in the Large Auditorium. Optional discussions will take place after the films at a local place to be determined
